With the return of spring, our blooming valley felt it appropriate to herald the changing of the seasons with a reimagining of the myth of Persephone. In the Fall, Persephone joins her betrothed, Hades, God of the Underworld. Demeter, her mother and Goddess of Agriculture, mourns this loss, enveloping the earth in harsh winter. In the Spring, Persephone returns to her mother and as happiness abounds so does the harvest. And so, the Mythos: 2025 Paonia Fashion Show found its muse. Innovative local designers and performers showcased their creativity on April 12 and 13, 2025.
With both nights sold out, this fashion show proved to be much more than models strutting on the runway. This was a multi-media performance including live music, acting, dancing, and even burlesque elements, providing the opportunity for a diverse array of artistic expression.
This was a true community collaboration between Arts for All, the North Fork Valley Creative Coalition, Paradise Theatre, Juniper Circle, and The Learning Council to organize and fundraise for the event. While we strive to pay artists a living wage for their grand efforts, we were not able to meet that goal this time around, but still felt it appropriate to return the gifts of artists’ work, especially for an event that required so much collaboration. This was just one opportunity to invest resources back into the community; an important step toward making events like these self-sustaining.
The Paonia Fashion Shows 9 year hiatus gave it time to breathe and bring in new talent, ideas, and energy. Over the course of the coming months, TLC hopes to do seasonal fundraisers, with our main goal being compensating artists with a living wage.
TLC is so thankful to everyone who participated in this year’s event and contributed to its success – from the artists who designed pieces, to the Paradise Theater who hosted us, and all of our generous sponsors who helped facilitate this exciting new chapter in the Fashion Show’s evolution. We also want to give a special thanks to the cast and crew who devoted so much time to being at all our rehearsals, setting up the beautiful set, and making sure the music, lights, and overall ambience was on point.
