Strengthening Community Through Diversity
At The Learning Council, we are deeply committed to promoting justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) across the North Fork Valley. We believe JEDI should permeate every program and event we offer, and we strive to create opportunities that ensure all community members, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, can actively participate and benefit from our programs.
Our JEDI Programs
DC Cares
Delta County Coalition Advocating for Radically Equitable Spaces
Promotes diversity and inclusion within all community sectors through advocacy, education, and direct action. Organizes workshops and events to dismantle systemic barriers and enhance equity across the North Fork Valley. Come visit our Diversity Library where you will find banned books, comprehensive sexual health resources, and literature written by BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors.
LGBTQ+ Support and Advocacy
We create safe spaces and support networks where LGBTQ+ individuals can foster inclusion and wellbeing. Through specialized health programs, advocacy initiatives, and safety training, we enhance the lives of LGBTQ+ community members and support youth to speak up for their rights and directly impact outdated school policies. We also create art as activism, building strength, connection, celebration, and joy within our community.
Reparation Projects with First Nations
Striving to make deeper connections with those who once stewarded this land, the Nuche, or Ute Tribal Nations, by sharing with them the abundance grown in this valley, supporting healing ceremonies and local powwows, and offering a Regional Summit where educators, authors, seed savers, land stewards and wisdom carriers come together to share information and practices.
Honoring & Celebrating Culture & Heritage
Celebrating and uplifting cultural events including Cinco de Mayo, Festival Agrícola, Día de los Muertos, and West African Drum and Dance classes.
In collaboration with the Migrant Rural Coalition, La Plaza, and the Colorado Department of Agriculture, TLC supported "Voces Del Campo" (Voices of the Field), Colorado's first educational and advocacy convention connecting migrant farmworkers with vital resources and support networks.
TLC hosts Immigrant Partnership Team as a way for community members to come together in allyship and community action.
TLC marks Heritage Months throughout the year with celebrations and educational offerings that honor the many cultures and histories woven into the fabric of our community.
Arts for All
Arts for All creates platforms for artists from diverse backgrounds to express and share their cultural heritage, enhancing community engagement and appreciation. Through artistic workshops and public events, we celebrate cultural diversity and promote belonging. We offer resources, opportunities, and visibility to artists from historically excluded communities, empowering them to thrive and contribute to the cultural dialogue.
Health & Vitality Council
Focuses on reducing health disparities by providing targeted health education and wellness programs. Offers comprehensive resources on sexual health and mental wellness tailored to meet the needs of diverse community groups.
Farming & Food Equity
Inclusive Farming Programs: Offering workshops and training sessions designed to be accessible to all, enhancing diverse participation in sustainable agriculture.
Equity in Local Agriculture: Advocating for policies that incorporate JEDI practices to ensure fair representation and support for all community members in agricultural activities, especially migrant workers who support the agricultural economy of our area.
